Our Story

Inspiring students and professionals for research

The Laboratory of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Solar Energy is a part of the Thermal Engineering Section at the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. The Laboratory was founded in 2020, after the merger of “Laboratory of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning” and “Laboratory of Solar Energy” under the government gazette of Β1/37868/20 (Β’4109). For 65 years, it is devoted devoted to science and education aiming to inspire young engineers to develop impactful solutions on the pillars of science, technology, and society.

As a laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens, we dedicate our research on technological solutions aiming for the maximum possible scientific and social impact for the community. We participate in several national and EU funded research and innovation projects, mainly in the fields of renewable energy technologies and retrofitting solutions for buildings towards a decarbonized and sustainable future. Furthermore, we also conduct our own research on various other fields exploring new ideas and solutions.

Our laboratory participates in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses provided by the Thermal Engineering Department to the School of Mechanical Engineering. The courses provided consider the fields of renewable energy sources, refrigeration systems, air conditioning, energy storage systems, and efficiency enhancement of the building sector using both passive and active technologies. Our goal is to provide both fundamental and advanced knowledge to our students, and inspire them to contribute in science and technology, while at the same time empowering the high-level educated workforce of the country.

"A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality."
